Vauxhall Male Voice Choir (VMVC)
and guest choir
Welwyn Garden City
MVC
joined in song at All Saints’ Church, Shaftesbury Road, Luton
on Saturday 16th February 2008.
The concert was to pay tribute to Robert
(Bob) Gillman, Musical Director VMVC
who served the choir for thirty five years
and as a mark of respect for Bob’s wife, Dorothy, and family.
Choir and guest artists entertained a capacity audience with an evening of powerful music all of which had a
special connection with Bob
-
some of which were his own arrangements.
Kerry Watson (soprano),
Stephen Turner
(organist)
and
James Banville (resident VMVC organist)
were among the artists
who contributed to memorable night of music.
Stuart Williams, VMVC chairman said:
“Tonight has been very special.
We feel privileged to honour the memory of Bob Gillman our friend and leader.
Remembering his charisma and ready wit will always make us smile and warm our hearts.
His stewardship of the choir has set us on course to go from strength to strength.”
The
night’s activities continued after the concert at an ‘Afterglow’ -
a post
concert get-together of the choirs and their families and friends with a buffet
and impromptu music.
Just
over £1.000 was raised
which will be shared
by Cancer Research (UK)
and Bedford Hospital NHS Trust.
