Vauxhall Male Voice Choir (VMVC), Luton Youth Cantores and the Luton Concert Orchestra joined forces to present their annual Grand Christmas Charity Concert on the 19th December last in St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, West Street, Dunstable to raise funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
Luton Youth Cantores (Girls' Choir) started the night's entertainment by entering the church singing the traditional first verse of the carol Once in Royal David's City. Choirs and Orchestra then combined to give a memorable night of festive music to a near capacity audience. Many compliments were received regarding the high quality of the night's performance. Malcolm Singer, well known for his close association with BBC Three Counties Radio over many years, was MC for the evening's event. Invited dignitaries included the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire and the mayors of Luton, Dunstable. Houghton Regis and Leighton-Linslade and their partners/escorts.
Stuart Williams, Chairman VMVC, said: "We had been so looking forward to this night's special occasion and feel well rewarded for such a successful concert. It is always a pleasure for the Choirs and Orchestra to perform together and once again the support from the audience has been fantastic, particularly on such a wintery night. We are delighted to be able to support this worthy local cause."
Julian Towler, Chairman LCO, presented a cheque for £1,300 to Dr Sarah Skinner (pictured), the medical consultant representing Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Dr Skinner said: "Thank you for the money raised at this concert tonight. All monies raised for this cause will help in the creation and support of the Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit in the Luton and Dunstable Hospital which will be a lifeline to many premature babies in the future. The Trust is extremely grateful for your generosity."
