The UK’s most practical self build and renovation show returns to Westpoint Arena in Exeter next weekend on 7 and 8 September 2024.

Build It Live brings together everything you need under one roof to help make a building project a success. Listen to real life stories from self builders featured in Build it Magazine. At the Exeter show hear from a florist and surfing instructor who used local labour and natural, sustainable materials to turn a classic barn into an idyllic Cornish home.

Over the course of two days, meet hundreds of local and national suppliers who will be showcasing all the latest products and technology. Sit down for free impartial one-to-one consultations with industry experts and attend informative live talks about everything from finding land to designing your own home and gaining planning consent.

Luxury new homes on the timetable for former Exeter school

Once a thriving private school, Bramdean, located in Heavitree Exeter, has been given a new lease of life by specialist residential developer, KHP Group. Renamed as Richmond Grove, the former school site is being transformed into a unique development of 25 high-end detached homes and apartments.

The site, made up of two linked late Georgian houses have been a feature of the landscape in Heavitree since 1834. The buildings were originally built as houses during the expansion of Exeter in the early 19th Century and their use as residential dwellings was continuous up until 1904, when Bramdean school was established. Over the following century, the school expanded to include a series of buildings, including a chapel, 2which now form part of the collection of exclusive new homes.

The school was closed in early 2020, due to dwindling numbers and the coronavirus pandemic, which left the future of the site, that sits within the Heavitree Conservation Area, in doubt.

KHP acquired the site in 2021 and began an ambitious development plan to blend the restoration of the historic buildings with sympathetic energy efficient new buildings. Richmond Grove will offer electric car charging points, bike storage and allocated, private parking for all properties. Existing trees and landscape features are being retained, where possible, to help maintain the characteristics of the Conservation Area. The reduction of the height of the old red brick wall to the front of the site will allow passers-by to appreciate the character of the buildings once more whilst still providing a secure development.

KHP Director Murat Haykir says, “We are really excited to have the opportunity to bring Richmond Grove to a highly-desirable area in Exeter. KHP Group specialises in the conversion of heritage, and often listed, buildings into high-end contemporary homes, so we have approached this project from a point of view of restoration.”

“We are delighted that our two flagship properties, Bramdean Villa and the Mews House are now ready for occupation”.

Potential homeowners are being invited to an exclusive preview of Richmond Grove on Saturday 18th November 2023 between 10am and 12pm, where they will have the opportunity to view the impressive four-bedroom Bramdean Villa and the elegant four bedroom Mews House. There will also be more information made available on the Music House and School House apartments, which will be available to view in early 2024.

Murat continues, “In addition to those interested in our four bedroom houses, the preview event will be a great way to showcase the high-quality finish, that will be a key feature in our apartments as well. The apartments are located in the restored original buildings and will boast character features, high ceilings and attractive large windows, flooding the interiors with lots of light, as well as all the mod-cons you’d expect in a luxury property. A perfect blend of yesterday’s heritage with modern day living”.
