Devon County Show Partners with Iventis to Digitise Agricultural Show Planning Process

Devon County Show is delighted to announce a partnership with Iventis which takes the mapping of the showground to an entirely new, digital level.

The visual event planning technology, developed by Iventis, provides a range of tools that bring together mapping and CAD data into an easy-to-use visual format for precise, real-time event planning.

It is the functionality of layers that make up the bedrock of the new Devon County Show digital plan, enabling the team to plan out the 600 hundred stands on the 96-acre showground both quickly and efficiently.

“Planning the positioning of trade stands has always been one of the greatest team challenges”, says Lisa Moore, Devon County Show Manager and acting CEO. “With the Iventis visual planning platform, we can simply use the layering capability to show each trade stand its correct position, as well as include as much in-depth information about that business as we want - not only their contact details, but also what they sell and their web address. Once inputted, this information is then available for the entire team to access with one easy click.

“Latterly, we have admittedly been stuck a little bit in the dark ages - using an A3 map between us all which was filled in as each booking came in by hand. Whilst it has been an effective way of logging bookings, it’s a time-consuming exercise which needs to be started from scratch each year. The Iventis planning tool makes the process more streamlined, but the overriding benefit of the technology is the ability to collaborate and communicate plans with our traders. Formerly, we would send each trader a printed map, with the position of their stand manually highlighted. Now, using Iventis, we can share their location on the showground with the touch of a button, as well as provide them with the most direct route to reach it. Not only has this freed up precious time for the team and the traders, but it has also saved us a considerable sum of money in postage costs.

“There are benefits too for the Devon County Show visitor. Instead of relying on a PDF or referring to a printed map in the show guide to plan their visit, visitors will be able access a digital, public facing map from the Devon County Show website and pan in and out of particular areas of the showground. We hope to be able to further develop the visitor offering with Iventis, allowing them to plot their route in advance, click on a trade stand and read about the trader as well as see their web address.”

Iventis is keen to help other agricultural shows plan their events digitally and is delighted that Devon County Show decided to partner with Iventis.

Commenting, CEO and Founder, Joe Cusdin, said: “We're thrilled to partner with the Devon County Show, a prestigious show in the agricultural events landscape, and look forward to working with Lisa and her team to help to bring the show to life. We’re committed to helping agricultural show organisers digitise their event planning process, making the process easier, faster, and more enjoyable for everyone involved.”

Shotgunned - UK-Wide Tour Kicks Off in Exeter This Weekend

Shotgunned, a brand new play written and directed by Matt Anderson, starts its 37 night UK-wide tour this weekend at Barnfield Theatre in Exeter.

Shotgunned tells the story of Dylan and Roz, a couple who unexpectedly fall out of love. It is a poignant and humorous reflection on the messy and the beautiful in relationships and how we can come up against a dead end, no matter how much we care for each other. It also speaks about our dreams and the courage and resilience it takes to follow them. In equal parts hilarious and heart-breaking, Shotgunned is a relatable and intimate piece of theatre about the people we lose that shape who we become.

The show is brought to the stage by Kangaroo Court - a creative studio specialising in theatre and film production. Off the back of a successful three-night run in Falmouth and Truro last year, the team at Kangaroo Court have been busy building a self-funded UK-wide tour of the show. Now, as things stand, Shotgunned has 37 shows performing at theatres in Cornwall, Exeter, Bath, London, Brighton, and Edinburgh.

Secure your tickets for this spellbinding new show on Exeter Northcott's official website by searching for Shotgunned. Performance dates are Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd March, 7:30pm.

Be sure to keep up-to-date with all things Shotgunned by following @roocourt on Instagram.

Humbug!, an immersive Christmas experience created by Devon-based theatre company Wandering Tiger, will commemorate its 100th performance on Friday 8th December.

Since its debut in 2017, Humbug! has transported over 4000 people back in time to Victorian England, immersing them in a festive world of magic and wonder.

The site-specific show takes place throughout St Nicholas Priory, Exeter's oldest building, and brings the story of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol to life with a mixture of performance, video projection, and live music.

"We are delighted to be celebrating our 100th performance," said Luke Jeffery, director of Wandering Tiger. "When we first came up with the idea for this show, we never could have anticipated the response it would receive. It’s been a true joy to see so many people get swept up in the magic of Christmas with us each year.”

Humbug! has quickly become a holiday tradition for many in Devon and the show offers a unique and enchanting way to celebrate the festive season.

"One of the things that sets the show apart is the incredible setting of St Nicholas Priory," said Luke. "The building itself is a character in the story, with its centuries of history adding to the atmosphere of the show. We’re so grateful to the team at Exeter Historic Buildings Trust for allowing us to use the space as our stage."

Humbug! runs from December 7th - 24th. For more information or to book tickets visit wanderingtiger.com

BAFTA award-winning writer Henry Normal and legendary actor Nigel Planer announce show in Exeter

BAFTA award-winning writer and producer turned poet, Henry Normal, is back on the road touring the UK with a brand new show for 2023, alongside a very special guest - comedy legend Nigel Planer.

Kicking off in September 2023, Henry Normal will return to the stage alongside Nigel Planer, re-uniting this inimitable duo, who toured together in the early 90s. They will be performing at Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre on 12th October.

Henry Normal’s career spans over 40 years and includes writing and producing some of the country’s best loved and critically acclaimed TV programmes and films. His new shows will showcase a wide variety of new material from his latest collections - Collected Poems Volumes 1, 2 and the newly released Vol 3. Henry has 10 previous collections and will also be returning to BBC Radio 4 in December with a brand new show entitled A Normal Journey. This is Henry’s 11th BBC Radio 4 show in this ongoing series.

As ever, and in his own distinctive style, Henry’s show will find fun in the familiar, humour in the everyday and poignancy in the pitfalls of modern life. It is a show about love, life and family that is as moving as it is funny and often both at the same time.

Henry will be sharing the stage with critically-acclaimed British actor, writer, and musician Nigel Planer for 13 unforgettable shows on the Autumn tour. Best known for his roles as Neil in the BBC 1980s comedy The Young Ones and Ralph Filthy in Filthy Rich & Catflap, Nigel will be bringing his lesser-known but just as prolific poetic talent to the stage. His poetry has been published in the Guardian and in numerous anthologies as well as the 1997 collection Unlike the Buddha. Nigel has collected his many years of poetic endeavours into one volume called Making Other Plans.

Nigel is sure to complement Henry’s already warm, funny and unique show, and this is a unique opportunity to see two of the most exciting voices in spoken word, back to back.
