Exeter Philharmonic Choir with tenor Rhys Batt and soprano Camilla Harris serves up a feast of much-loved arias and choruses from operas spanning four centuries, including Puccini’s La bohème, Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Bizet’s Carmen and Verdi’s La traviata.

Well-known Exeter musicians Stephen Tanner and Andrew Downton will accompany the singers on piano.

The season finale at St. David’s Church in Exeter will be a comparatively intimate affair with just 200 tickets available.

The £25 ticket price includes interval drinks and canape.

Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I go head-to-head in this historical tragedy. Donizetti’s riveting opera provides an insight both into a compelling period of British history and current tensions, and culminates in a fictitious meeting between the two rival Tudor Queens, which sizzles with vocal fireworks.

Donizetti’s powerful melodies will be performed in a new orchestration by Paul McKenzie for six singers, accompanied by piano, clarinet and violin. Mary, Queen of Scots will tour as a fully-staged production to unique and evocative venues across the UK, some with direct links to the two Queens. Chamber Opera Tours presents Jane Austen’s Persuasion: A Musical Drama

Following performances at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, Chamber Opera Tours is thrilled to bring its original musical adaptation to the Palace Theatre in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Persuasion.

This popular production has toured the UK and North America the past five years and features music from Jane Austen’s manuscripts and the era, fully staged with chamber orchestra, beautiful Regency costumes, projected scenery, and world-champion Irish dancers!

Gluck's Opera "Orfeo ed Euridice"

Grassroots Opera, a company of young professional singers, will be performing their production of Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice at the Blackmore Theatre, Exmouth, at 7.30PM on Friday the 26th of October (bar open beforehand). Grassroots Opera was founded in February 2018 by Devon based Soprano Chloe Stratta, and Mezzo-Soprano Anna Marie McLachlan. They aim to present opera in a way that is accessible to everyone, in intimate venues where audience members can feel immersed in the action and connect to the emotions presented.
Orfeo ed Euridice, a tale originating in Greek Mythology, tells the story of Orfeo, a grieving man who is given the chance by Amore (the personification of love) to travel to the underworld in attempt to save his beloved wife Euridice. But is there more pain to be had in fighting nature? Can Euridice really be brought back, or has Orfeo been driven mad by grief? In this production, Grassroots Opera explore the lines between love and obsession, reality and imagination.

Internationally acclaimed Opera Singers to perform at Cadhay

Devon opera buffs are keenly anticipating an evening of exquisite performances in the historic surroundings of Cadhay, Ottery St Mary, on 25 September.

Internationally acclaimed opera singers Anando Mukerjee and Justine Viani will be performing at the black tie event, kindly hosted by Rupert Thistlethwayte and Caroline Prior who are raising funds for Hospiscare.

London-based Anando is well known to Devonians, having previously performed at Cadhay and with Devon Opera. Anando is a lirico-spinto tenor, meaning that he is versatile enough to sing both lyrical and dramatic roles.

Having made her stage debut to great acclaim in the title role of Salome at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg in 2010, Justine has since performed extensively as an oratorio soloist and gained plaudits for her roles in opera theatres worldwide.

The setting for the night's event will start in Cadhay’s beautiful courtyard, known as the Court of the Sovereigns, which lies at the heart of this stunning Elizabethan manor house with champagne and canape reception. Supper will be served during the interval
